Terre Haute Air Show
The Terre Haute Air Show turns Terre Haute Regional Airport into one of Indiana's biggest aviation spectacles every August, and it all started with a single show back in 2002.
Opening With the Thunderbirds
Terre Haute held its very first air show in 2002, headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and it drew a crowd of 50,000 people right out of the gate. That kind of turnout for a debut event set the tone for what the show would become in the decades that followed.
Over the years, the show has continued to land some of the biggest names in military aviation. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels returned to Terre Haute in 2024, and recent lineups have featured historic warbirds like the Boeing B-29 Superfortress "DOC," one of the most significant surviving aircraft from World War II.
A Night Show Format Sets It Apart
What makes the Terre Haute Air Show stand out in the crowded world of American air shows is its night show format, a relatively new innovation in the industry. The event pairs thrilling daytime aerobatics with illuminated evening flights and pyrotechnic displays, giving visitors a very different experience once the sun goes down.
Recent editions of the show have tied that night format into larger national moments, including a grand finale built around America's 250th anniversary celebrations.
More Than Just the Flying
Beyond the aerial performances, the show fills the airport grounds with static aircraft displays and interactive exhibits for visitors of every age. Attendees get the chance to walk right up to historic and modern aircraft and meet the pilots and crews who fly them, turning the weekend into a hands-on aviation experience rather than just a spectator event.
Admission stays family-friendly too, with kids 12 and under getting in free for general admission, keeping the show accessible for the Wabash Valley families who turn out year after year.
