About Ironman Raceway

Ironman Raceway is a motocross track carved out of the Shaver family farm in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and its story starts on the family land, not on a corporate blueprint.

Ironman Raceway

From Blackwater 100 to a Family Farm

During a trip to the Blackwater 100 GNCC event in the early 1990s, the Shaver family crossed paths with race promoter Dave Coombs. After some conversation with “Big Dave,” they wondered if their own family farm might work for a GNCC event. Coombs sent his son-in-law, Jeff Russell, out to Crawfordsville to see the property firsthand, and after a brief tour, the decision was made.

The event joined the GNCC schedule starting in 1995, and it was named “Ironman” in honor of two-time GNCC champion Bob Sloan, an Indiana native who had died the year before. What started as a tribute race on a family farm has since grown into the largest and most celebrated round of the entire GNCC Championship.

A Track Built by the Land Itself

The land around Ironman looks flat from the road — perfect for the huge camping and pitting fields that surround the property. But walk toward the track itself and the ground suddenly opens up, dropping down and swallowing the race course whole. That natural terrain feature gives Ironman some of the biggest, steepest jump combinations in the sport, including “Godzilla,” a massive elevator-style uphill jump that’s become one of the track’s signatures.

The dedicated motocross course opened in 2014, driven in large part by the success of the Ironman GNCC race that had already been running there for two decades. That addition brought the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to the property, alongside the GNCC series and a round of the ATV Motocross National Championship.

Hosting the World

In 2025, Ironman Raceway reached a new level entirely, hosting the 78th running of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations — only the sixth time that race has ever been held on U.S. soil. For a farm that started as a favor to a family friend in the early ’90s, that’s about as far as a track can come.
