About CAF Wings Over Indy
CAF Wings Over Indy has grown into the most anticipated Midwest WWII aerial display of its kind, and it all flies under the banner of one guiding mission: honor, remember, and inspire.
Presented by a Flying Museum
Wings Over Indy is presented by the Indiana Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, a flying museum, not a static one. The Indiana Wing maintains and actively flies a collection of genuine WWII trainer aircraft, including a Fairchild PT-26 Cornell, a twin-engine Beech SNB, a Vultee BT-13 Valiant, and a Stearman, along with member-owned aircraft like a Stinson L-5 Sentinel and an AT-6 Texan. These planes are based across the state at Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport, Kokomo Municipal Airport, Terre Haute Regional Airport, and Noblesville Airport.
That flying-museum model is what sets Wings Over Indy apart from a typical static display event. The aircraft on the ground during the show are the same ones taking to the sky.
A Decade of Growth
The event has run for over a decade, celebrating its 10th Annual CAF Wings Over Indy in 2024 at Indianapolis Executive Airport in Zionsville, presented in partnership with Jet Access’s Annual Open House and Fly-In. Earlier editions were held at Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport in Fishers, with the show growing and shifting locations as it built its following across the Indianapolis area.
Living History for Every Generation
The show’s programming leans heavily into hands-on experience rather than just spectator viewing. Guests can take rides in genuine WWII-era aircraft, try flight simulators, and let kids explore a dedicated Kids Fly Zone, all alongside aerobatic performances and warbird displays.
The event also carries a fundraising mission through its Plane Pull competition, where teams compete to pull a WWII-era Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon bomber, with proceeds supporting Indy Honor Flight, the nonprofit that flies Indiana’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials.
