Description

Ben Hur Speedway

Ben Hur Speedway is the premier dirt – oval –track in the state of Indiana,  it’s a one – third mile lighting fast clay oval track. The track opened in the late 1950’s, as an AMA Motorcycle track and was known as, Ben Hur Aces Motorcycle Club.

Over the years Ben Hur Speedway started letting Go-Karts begin racing during their intermission, and in the 1970’s Go-Karting  started becoming really popular, and in 1982 the Motorcycles at Ben Hur were permanently replaced by the Go-Karts full time, and was renamed Ben Hur Speedway.  Go-Kart Racing at Ben Hur Speedway has been running strong ever since.

A unique side note----Between 1950 until between the 2003-2004 season the Ben Hur Speedway track had what is called a “DOGLEG”  located between turns 2 & 3 to add an exciting extra to the racing action!

During the course of a season at Ben Hur Speedway we run a full fifteen race schedule, starting in April and ending the around the end of October, trying our best to make up for rain out nights as they occur.  We do this on either the
following  Saturday or somewhere on down the schedule, as we race every other Saturday Night.
On an average Saturday Night we draw in around 100 Kart’s, and with them come many spectators, both young and old.

We have 14 classes that run each Saturday Night that we race, from our Rookie Class where they are as young as five years old, up to our Senior Stock Class where we have guys racing in their 50’s and 60’s.

We have three big money races each year,
Our first one called “The Shooky Summer Shootout” held each year in July.
The second one is “The Indiana State Dirt Track Championship” held over Labor Day Weekend each year.
With just these races alone we have two of the Biggest Karting events in the State of Indiana, held right here in

Montgomery  County at our very own, BEN HUR SPEEDWAY.   Both of these races alone have brought in around two
hundred Go-Karts per event.

We then end the season with the third big race a fun (but serious) event we call “The Halloween Spooktacular”,  at this race we open up the Pit Area to the public during a long intermission and the spectators are invited to come back and see the drivers and their Karts up close and can ask any questions as they watch the drivers work on their Karts as they get ready for the final big money race of the year.  This one is a 100 Lap Race for all the money.

Also on this night when we open up the Pit Area we have Trick or Treating at each of the Kart Pit Spot, for all the kids that come back.
